This course is part of a range of enabling programs developed by South Metropolitan TAFE that are aimed at enhancing learners' employability skills or preparing them for further studies. The flexible nature of the course make it versatile and able to be adapted to suit a diverse range of clients, including members of disadvantaged and under-represented groups. Award of the qualification requires completion of a set of core units developed for each course, and electives that can either be selected from a bank of developed and imported units, or imported from any other qualifications at Certificate I level. The units developed for the courses broadly cover work preparation, community participation, personal management and literacy and numeracy. Students that successfully complete the qualification can progress to a variety of vocational pathways at Certificates I, II and III level, as well as ESL programs and employment-based training.
