Description:

Successful completion of this course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to work as a disability support worker with people with a psychosocial disability and respond to crisis situations. Participants will also learn and understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and work within an NDIS service environment. The course also covers supporting the safety of people with disability through identifying and reporting abuse and/or family violence.

This includes knowledge of how psychosocial disability differs from most other forms of disability, understanding the support needs of people with psychosocial disability and recovery oriented practice.
Support workers need to demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity and empathy in all aspects of their work, practice self-care and manage stressors in the work environment.
