The Vocational and/or educational outcomes include addressing the skills gap currently seen within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care education and position descriptions. The course also provides crucial and innovative career entry and career pathway choices for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by providing a structured and mostly non-clinical career/role as a health coach, and by offering more options for the remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care workforce.
Economic outcomes such as employment and an increase in future opportunities of employment, earnings and skills, that match the current labour market demand particularly within their own communities.
Further, the outcomes of this purposely designed vocational education training course will enable the development of social competencies and skills to support the improvement of health-related behaviours of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with chronic conditions, benefitting the client, the client’s family, the health coach, and the community in which they live.
Finally, the purpose of the course is also to provide health coaches to work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, supporting them to self-manage their chronic condition/s, independently, safely and with confidence. The position provides this support through; health coaching that focuses on the individual philosophy of clients (attitudes, way of thinking, beliefs, viewpoints, ideas and values) and through the development, implementation and coordination of a client directed, self-management plan/program. This position also works as part of a multi-disciplinary remote primary health care team.
