Description:

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who participate in chemicals management within a workplace which includes the control of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals in storage, use, production and transportation. The course provides a holistic approach to chemicals management which follows a stepwise method from the initial identification of hazardous chemicals, through to control and management of waste. Through completion of this course, learners will achieve the following vocational outcomes:
• Understand the legislative framework in relation to workplace health and safety.
• Identify chemicals within a workplace.
• Develop good practice for management of chemicals within a workplace.
• Design a systematic inventory for all chemicals used, stored or transported in work related activities.
• Manage risks associated with hazardous chemicals.
• Perform risk assessments for identified hazardous chemicals.
• Identify control measures in managing hazards and risks.
• Assess hazards and risks in handling waste by using chemical waste management principles.
• Manage hazardous waste.
• Contribute to the evaluation and integration of chemicals management within a workplace as part of the organisational health and safety policy
