Description:
This qualification meets the needs of individuals working in a range of roles to provide Community Night Patrol service delivery in the Northern Territory.
Vocational outcomes
This course is intended to provide participants with a range of knowledge,
and skills to perform the following job roles:
• Day Patrol Officer
• Night Patrol Officer
• Youth Patrol Officer.

Community outcomes
This course is intended to provide participants with the following skills and knowledge to contribute to community outcomes such as:
• Conduct mobile and foot patrols to identify at-risk behaviors by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• Intervene in situations where vulnerable persons are at risk by providing dispute resolution, transport of vulnerable persons or other culturally appropriate actions
• Maintain radio/telephone communications with Police and other agencies, and assist Police and other agencies during times of emergency where feasible
• Take calls from the public reporting at-risk behaviors and respond appropriately
• Record statistical information and maintain an accurate and concise shift journal of all activities carried out on shift
• Provide first aid assistance to persons suffering from illness or injuries
• Ensure effective communication with colleagues, clients and service providers, plus involvement and contribution at regular and consistent team meetings and handovers
• Relocating a person to a ‘safe’ environment such as a relative’s home, recognised safe house, women’s refuge, hospital, sobering-up shelter or other medical facility, where that person voluntarily agrees to the relocation
• Diffusing violent situations where it is safe to do so
• Ensuring the safety of children
• Diverting intoxicated people, substance abusers, young people, victims of crime and the homeless away from contact with the criminal justice system
• Providing advice, information or referral; for instance, to a counselling service.
