Description:
Agritourism exists where the general public interacts with a place of primary production, typically a working farm. This interaction brings an important alternative or additional revenue stream to regional/rural and peri-urban farmers, but introduces significant biosecurity and business risks for these farmers, their farms and the wider community.
The Diploma of Agritourism Operations will:
• support farmers and growers to minimise biosecurity and business risks
• provide the specialised knowledge and skills required to establish the framework for, and safely manage, tourists who visit a working place of primary production
The Diploma of Agritourism Operations is aimed at:
• managers or senior staff of an agritourism business
• managers or senior staff of an agribusiness (such as a farm, orchard, vineyard, agroforestry business, aquaculture business) that is transitioning to an agritourism enterprise and plans to invite the general public or tourists into the place of primary production
• managers or senior staff of an ecotourism business
• new entrants into the field of agritourism who aspire to a role as manager or senior staff member
A new or changed business model will require specialised agritourism managerial skills, such as:
• implementing and monitoring the whole farm plan, including operations
• ensuring the implementation and monitoring of enterprise biosecurity plans, sustainable operations, staffing of farming and tourism activities
• managing health and safety of staff and visitors
The job outcomes for the qualification would relate to that of farm tourism management.
