Description:
Graduates of Diploma of Styling (Fashion, Image and Media) are eligible to be independent stylists in the Fashion, Image make-over and Media industries.

Stylists working in Fashion Retail, Image Make-over, Print and On-line Media plan, develop, implement and evaluate information and public presentation strategies that create an understanding and a favourable view of organisations and individuals, their goods and services, and their role in the community.

This course is intended to provide participants with a range of knowledge, and skills to perform the following functions (depending on electives selected) associated with styling for Fashion, Image and Media purposes:
• Manage ongoing relationships with customers to assist meeting their needs
• Apply an understanding of body types, personal colouring and personalities
• Apply design elements and principles to developing fashion concepts for individual and corporate requirements
• Dress models and performers back-stage at a fashion, entertainment, workplace or community event
• Identify fibres and fabrics, their use and performance in the fashion industry and for fashion and accessories
• Establish, maintain and evaluate WHS policies, procedures and programmes
• Coordinate colours and styles
• Manipulate digital images using a variety of computer programmes
• Use computers efficiently to complete work related tasks
• Design and apply make-up
• Style hair
• Communicate styling concepts using a variety of different communication platforms
• Recommend and fit clothing
• Source and investigate information on history of culture, fashion and accessories
• Conduct personal make-overs for general and high profile clients
• Assess individual styling requirements
• Research information on fashion history and culture and apply this information to styling projects
• Apply social and cultural etiquette for a variety of contexts
• Conduct editorial styling for print, TV, commercials and music media
• Set up and maintain business networks
• Write content for a variety of styling contexts
• Design and apply make-up for photography
• Set up, market, and manage a small business
• Create the mood for photo shoots
• Set up appropriate props, fashions, accessories, and models to fit the theme of the shoot
• Scout locations
• Select appropriate models to showcase outfits
• Promote and market own styling services
• Implement visual merchandising projects
• Conduct styling for commercial and corporate clients
• Coordinate and conduct catwalk styling
• Event organisation and management
• Manage budgets and finances
• Manage projects
• Operate and manage wardrobe/back stage department
• Research contemporary designers and fashion photographers
• Research global design trends
• Design and apply make-up to correct flaws and faults
