Description:

The course provides Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-based researchers with accredited training that is adapted to the community and research project needs, a key success factor in engaging Aboriginal and /or Torres Straits Islander communities in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector (Dockery, 2013 Ackehurst, Polvere & Windley, 2017). Learners are invited to enrol in the accredited course:
• During employment in health-related research projects run by Menzies and /or partners and other organisations building on the health and research capacity of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities;
• Training is contextualised to meet the needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health organisations (partners of Menzies) and communities who engage in research as part of their core business, &
• To enable selected health workers in communities to upgrade their skills to meet the requirements of Commonwealth government evaluations.
• VET training, which respects cultural knowledge and local capabilities in remote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander remote communities, leads to ongoing local employment opportunities (Dockery 2013, Ackehurst, Polvere & Windley, 2017).
