Description:
The aim of this course is to develop safety critical communication skills in an aviation context by providing foundation aviation knowledge, vocabulary, communication skills, numeracy skills and learning skills required to communicate safely and effectively in an aviation environment, and to succeed in further aviation studies.

This course was developed to help trainees meet the CASA requirement that all pilots and radio operators achieve a General English Language Proficiency (GELP) prior to flying solo or operating a Flight Radio, and an Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP) of ICAO 4 in order to obtain a Pilots Licence.

In addition, this course provides school leavers or those who are considering entering the Aviation field a broad oversight to the aviation industry, and a better understanding of the roles and skill sets required to fill those roles.

This course focuses on developing aviation elementary aeronautical knowledge, expanding the aviation vocabulary, and the ability to interpret and apply that knowledge to safety critical communications in an aviation context. The emphasis is on the listening, and speaking skills to aviation communication standards.

The target audience for this course includes:
• school leavers or new entrants into the Aviation field who want foundation knowledge of the aviation industry before pursing more advanced training in the aviation field, and/or
• trainees with English as a second language who wish to achieve the competency required to achieve a General English Language Proficiency (GELP) and/or Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP) assessment required by CASA for operating a radio and attaining a pilot license.
