The Diploma is intended to provide Directresses in early childhood development the range of knowledge and skills to perform the following functions associated with the application of Maria Montessori’s principles and practices that guide the child’s engagement in spontaneous and purposeful learning activities.

• Interact with parents regarding the child’s development
• Develop learning strategies consistent with Montessori practice
• Foster the child’s social and emotional well being
• Support and guide the child’s behaviour and experiences
• Support infants and toddlers and pre-schoolers to master key developmental tasks including
o Language and communication
o Social and cultural awareness
o Mathematics and Science
