Vocational outcomes:

This course is intended to provide participants with a range of knowledge, and skills to perform the following functions associated with being a Senior or Ranger Coordinator (or other support personnel) in Tropical Biosecurity:

• Knowledge of policies and procedures and their link to legislative requirements in tropical biosecurity

• Knowledge of a range of plant, animal, insect and marine life biology

• Undertake surveillance of remote country and coastlines to identify and respond to potential pests and diseases that arrive in Northern Australia via unregulated pathways

• Respond to identified pests and weeds in collaboration with regulatory authorities and traditional owners.

• Provide leadership and team facilitation skills to less experienced community members

• Collaborate with others to plan and prepare team tropical biosecurity activities in consultation with authorities and traditional owners.

• Conduct community awareness and promotion of tropical biosecurity activities to the community

• Provide leadership in cultural practices and protocols on Country

• Coordinate and lead Indigenous rangers in tropical biosecurity surveillance and response

• Relevant scientific knowledge of high priority exotic pests and diseases

• Reliable skills and readiness to respond to exotic pest & disease situations
