Description:
This qualification aims to develop the advanced skills involved in chaplaincy work in contexts such as courts, prisons, hospitals, schools, rural communities, domestic violence units, aged care, homelessness services and statutory bodies such as the fire brigade and police force.
The qualification provides a cluster of core chaplaincy skills and knowledge that is transferable across these fields, and forms the basis for ongoing professional development in specialised areas.
Learners gain an understanding and experience of the chaplain's role to assist clients in identifying and utilising spiritual, religious and moral strengths and resources meaningful and appropriate for them.
The Diploma provides training in targeted, client-focussed communication and effective interaction. Learners are trained to provide assistance and support in situations of crisis, grief, loss and other life experiences. Skills in intervention, referral and advocacy are also included.
