Description:
The overall educational outcomes of the course are to enable the learners to:
• be able to apply Jewish Law to areas of Jewish life including appropriate responses to a variety of contemporary questions and situations
• be able to function as spiritual leaders in view of their knowledge of Jewish Law, Theology and ethics, and their ability to impart it in the context of communal prayer, adjudication, sermons and lectures
• be able to provide specific community services
• be able to instruct in Jewish Religious Education on a variety of levels appropriate to the needs of the relevant community
The seven core units provide the competencies to advise, supervise, and practise Jewish religious ritual according to Jewish Law and tradition in the context of regular and daily activities. These represent the practical day-to-day activities of a Rabbi.
The two (out of three) specified electives provide knowledge and understanding of the theological, moral and ethical foundations of Judaism which underpin the Laws customs traditions and rituals.
The remaining 600 hours of elective units allow the student to:
• Acquire knowledge of the Torah and Talmud which enables him to grasp the origins and development of Jewish Laws, Theology, morals and ethics, customs, traditions and rituals and/or
• Develop competencies in additional areas of practical Rabbinics
• be able to apply Jewish Law to areas of Jewish life including appropriate responses to a variety of contemporary questions and situations
