Infection Control HLTINF006 HLTINF007 – change to implementation date

On 1 December 2022, Skills Ministers endorsed two updated Infection Prevention and Control units of competency. The new units have already been included in 18 qualifications, either as part of a major change process, or as a minor change with the new unit being added to the elective bank. These include the new Certificate III in Individual Support, updated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker qualifications and updated Allied Health Assistant qualifications.

To ensure that all current qualifications that include the superseded units (HLTINF001 and HLTINF003) could be updated without undue delay, the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) agreed that the new units should replace the superseded units in all current CHC and HLT qualifications through a ‘minor change’.

On 16 December 2022 stakeholders were advised on the National Register that the minor change would be implemented from 1 March 2023.  In response to stakeholder feedback, RTOs will now have the option to deliver either the superseded unit OR the new unit from 1 March 2023 to 30 June 2023.

The packaging rules for the 28 qualifications and 2 Skills Sets affected will be updated on 1 March 2023 to allow either unit to be delivered between the above period, and again on 1 July 2023 to allow only the new unit from 1 July 2023.

From 1 July 2023, RTOs delivering the qualifications and Skill Sets listed below must deliver either the HLTINF006 or HLTINF007 units. Superseded qualifications remain unchanged.
