National Skills Plan released

23 September 2024

The Australian, state and territory governments have released their first National Skills Plan. It sets out the vision for vocational education and training (VET) across the country and how governments will work together to achieve the shared goals of the 5-year National Skills Agreement.

The Plan has been informed by engagement and consultation with tripartite bodies – Jobs and Skills Australia and the Jobs and Skills Councils – and First Nations representatives.

It identifies the drivers of change, focus areas and early actions for each of the priorities in the National Skills Agreement. It is not a set-and-forget plan, recognising change takes time and priorities shift.

All jurisdictions will develop their own action plans that provide their specific actions that contribute to the national plan and priorities.

Releasing the first National Skills Plan is an important step in progressing joint stewardship of the national VET system.
