National Careers Week 2020 reminds us of the importance of continually developing your career

20 May 2020

National Careers Week is highlighting how important it is to keep reskilling and upskilling to develop your career. As our world changes, in the context of challenges like COVID-19, this has never been more important.

The spread of COVID-19 has shown that you never know what’s around the corner, it’s also shown us how skilled people can make all the difference. Whether it’s healthcare workers, aged and disabled carers, freight and logistics workers or science and information technology professionals, these are jobs that matter, now and into future. You could join Australian VET Alumni Raelene Collins on the front line, who became a Registered Nurse through combining a VET qualification and a university degree. More VET success stories of the AVA can be found here.

Vocational education and training (VET) is a pathway into these sectors, and many more careers that you may not have considered. VET can help you keep up with the future of work, because the courses are driven by what employers need.

COVID-19 is not stopping people securing nationally recognised qualifications — in fact, so much training has moved online that it gives people flexibility and opens up more opportunities for people to study than ever before.

A VET qualification can get you into any of these really important jobs. You can search around 2000 online offerings on My Skills to get nationally accredited training.

National Careers Week runs from 18–24 May and you can check out the many online events, from local, targeted education and employment opportunities, to national webinars can be found at: careersweek.com.au/events-page/
