Application

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in the creative arts industry. It applies to any field of the arts industry and is relevant to people in a wide range of occupations, for example, dancers, musicians, actors, cabaret performers, street performers, entertainment administrators, reviewers, film makers and public artists.

At this level, individuals are required to use some discretion and judgement and operate under broad supervision within an established framework of plans and procedures.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

  • apply information about industry trends to own work practice
  • establish work and contractual relationships
  • comply with relevant regulations and organisational requirements
  • prioritise work tasks
  • work collaboratively.

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

  • demonstrate well-developed knowledge of:

  • terminology associated with own industry sector
  • issues of appropriate behaviour and ethics as they apply to key work areas
  • key roles and responsibilities in own industry sector
  • sources of industry information and ways of maintaining current industry knowledge
  • describe key features of awards and conditions of employment for own work area
  • describe key aspects of the following:
  • consequences of infringing copyright
  • how copyright is enforced
  • organisations that deal with copyright
  • copyright ownership and protection
  • legal issues that affect negotiations and contracts
  • nature, role and functions of unions and employer associations
  • rights and responsibilities of employers and employees
  • work health and safety (WHS) requirements relevant to own work context
  • current and emerging technologies used in own industry sector.

Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

  • opportunities to apply negotiation techniques to solve work and contractual issues
  • situations in which work performance can be monitored and learning opportunities accessed
  • occasions where work tasks must be prioritised and completed within deadlines.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
