Application
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to safely shunt, couple and uncouple rail vehicles in accordance with system of safeworking and workplace policies and procedures. It includes preparing to shunt rail vehicles for loading/unloading, making up or breaking up trains and placing vehicles for operational and/or maintenance purposes. It also includes coupling, uncoupling and securing rail vehicles. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. |

Points, levers, switches and signals are operated, as required, in accordance with workplace policies and procedures to control rail vehicle movement |

Uniform line of sight and radio shunting commands are used in accordance with workplace policies, procedures and requirements |

Rail vehicles are positioned in accordance with operational requirements |

Relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements are followed to prevent injury and to avoid damage to equipment |
