This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to safely implement an aquatic facility plant and equipment maintenance program. This involves maintaining plant and equipment, diagnosing faults, responding to unsafe or failed plant and equipment and reviewing the effectiveness of the maintenance program.

Application of the Unit

This unit applies to those working independently as aquatic operators or managers in various aquatic environments, such as council or commercially operated aquatic and leisure centres. This may also include those coordinating and supervising others in the aquatic environment.

ELEMENT 

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

1. Maintain aquatic facility plant and equipment.

1.1. Carry out regular monitoring of aquatic facility plant and equipment  condition.

1.2. Identify potential problems with plant and equipment and record details according to organisational policies and procedures .

1.3. Implement preventative maintenance systems for aquatic facility plant and equipment for the long-term protection of assets according to relevant legislation , organisational policies and procedures and manufacturer's specifications.

2. Diagnose faults.

2.1. Erect clear and noticeable warning signs around aquatic facility plant and equipment that is being repaired.

2.2. Assess failed or unsafe aquatic facility plant and equipment according to organisational policies and procedures.

2.3. Identify faults and, where possible, determine the underlying cause.

3. Respond to failed or unsafe aquatic facility plant and equipment.

3.1. Erect clear and noticeable warning signs around aquatic facility plant and equipment that is being repaired.

3.2. Carry out repairs within designated responsibility according to manufacturer's recommendations and standards, public health regulatory requirements  and organisational policies and procedures.

3.3. Take defective equipment and or facilities out of operation according to organisational policies and procedures.

3.4. Make arrangements for required repairs to be carried out by qualified and or licensed contractors according to relevant legislation.

3.5. Record actions taken according to organisational policies and procedures and relevant legislation.

4. Review maintenance program.

4.1. Evaluate maintenance program to ensure short- and long-term maintenance requirements of the facility are met.

4.2. Schedule maintenance activities to minimise disruption to facility users and ensure that supplies  are available.

4.3. Integrate maintenance program with asset acquisition and disposal plans.

4.4. Identify and use acceptable alternative maintenance methods to maintain cost-effective program as required.
