This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to safely operate an aquatic facility plant and equipment.

This unit applies to those working as aquatic operators in various aquatic environments, such as council or commercially operated aquatic and leisure centres. Work may be carried out under supervision or with some degree of autonomy, depending on individual situation and job role.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

1. Conduct routine checks.

1.1. Perform routine inspections of aquatic facility plant and equipment  according to public health regulatory requirements .

1.2. Conduct routine checks of electrical and plumbing appliances  according to organisational policies and procedures  and relevant legislation .

2. Maintain and manage aquatic facility plant and equipment.

2.1. Carry out routine maintenance of aquatic facility plant and equipment using appropriate resources  according to manufacturer's guidelines and organisational policies and procedures.

2.2. Monitor use and condition of equipment and facility according to established routines and procedures.

2.3. Record equipment and facility use and document any conditions that require further action according to organisational policies and procedures.

2.4. Isolate and report faults and irregularities according to organisational policies and procedures.

3. Initiate corrective action.

3.1. Remove, replace and repair faulty and defective equipment or facilities, within designated responsibility and according to manufacturer's guidelines and organisational policies and procedures.

3.2. Notify aquatic facility or service personnel of faults and any corrective actions initiated.

3.3. Record action taken according to organisational policies and procedures and public health regulatory requirements.

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended, for example:

  • a suitable first aid qualification.

Assessment must ensure the safe and timely operation of aquatic facility plant and equipment on sufficient occasions to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.
