This unit covers the competency required to examine and certify explosive ordnance packaging and non explosive dangerous goods packaging as being free from explosives (FFE) and arisings for salvage or return. |
Application of the Unit
Application of the Unit |
This competency normally applies to the individual who is required to examine and certify salvage and associated packaging as being FFE. Certification of these items as being FFE is a statutory requirement at different stages in the processing of these items, in particular when being sold or offered to the public for scrap metal. Successful completion of this unit does not give the individual competency to carry out inerting of explosive ordnance for training or any other purpose. |

In a public safety environment assessment is usually conducted via direct observation in a training environment or in the workplace via subject matter supervision and/or mentoring, which is typically recorded in a competency workbook. Assessment is completed using appropriately qualified assessors who select the most appropriate method of assessment.
