This unit covers the competency required to supervise and control all aspects of the operation of indirect fire weapons. While this work will be undertaken under the commander's direction the individual must be able to act independently as required by the circumstances. |

2.1 Indirect fire weapon operations are directed and controlled in accordance with orders and standard procedures 2.2 Appropriate ammunition is selected in accordance with orders 2.3 Minor incidents are rectified 2.4 Major incidents beyond own level of authority or competence are reported to manager/s and action is taken as directed |

3. Conduct maintenance of indirect fire weapons |
3.1 Operator maintenance activities are supervised 3.2 Maintenance activities are completed in accordance with standard procedures |

Assessment must confirm the ability to effectively lead an indirect fire weapon operating crew; to apply appropriate OH&S requirements and recognised safety precautions; to test sights; to carry out non technical inspections; and to understand the limit of own authority. Consistency in performance Competency should be demonstrated over a period of time in different operational or simulated operational environments. |

Context of and specific resources for assessment |
Context of assessment Competency should be assessed in a simulated operational environment due to the high cost of ammunition. The simulation should replicate the live environment where stress and fatigue are key features. Specific resources for assessment Access to a live fire range, competent indirect fire weapon crew, the indirect fire weapon, and live ammunition. |
