Unit of competency

Modification History

Release 1. This is the first release of this unit of competency in the DEF Defence Training Package.

Application

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to create the required views for an enterprise architecture framework to permit its implementation by various elements of the organisation.

It includes creating common operational systems and technical views for a specific business architecture.

This unit applies to persons working in an enterprise architecture practice for Defence but may be applicable to anyone in this field.

The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.

Persons undertaking this unit work autonomously and perform sophisticated tasks in familiar contexts.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment requirements

Modification History

Release 1. This is the first release of this unit of competency in the DEF Defence Training Package.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least three occasions with extensive reference to representative stakeholders and include:

  • applying organisational policies and procedures
  • conducting enterprise systems analysis, design, planning and implementation, using a holistic approach at all times, for the successful development and execution of strategy
  • creating and documenting the required enterprise architecture using agreed set of enterprise architecture tools
  • interpreting systems and subsystem requirements
  • modelling enterprise architecture that complies with regulations and standards
  • reading and interpreting information technology drawings and symbols, including command relationship chart
  • undertaking technical writing
  • using effective communication with diverse stakeholders
  • using enterprise architecture software and hardware.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

  • capability maturity profile
  • enterprise architecture that complies with regulations and standards
  • information technology drawings and symbols, including command relationship chart and relevant stakeholders
  • logical data model
  • organisational policies and procedures relevant to enterprise architecture practice
  • operational concept and operational node connectivity
  • systems descriptions, including systems and subsystem requirements
  • systems matrices and must include one or more of the following:
  • operation activity to systems function traceability matrix
  • systems information exchange matrix
  • systems performance parameters matrix
  • systems to systems matrix.

Assessment Conditions

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

As a minimum, assessment must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations, where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

  • a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or other simulations that capture the range of situations likely to be encountered when using an enterprise architecture framework
  • relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry
  • relevant and appropriate legislation, policy, procedures and protocols relating to enterprise architecture
  • capacity for monitoring and sampling over an extended period with extensive reference to representatives
