Performance Evidence
Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently modified and repaired a chassis and frame on a minimum of one occasion.
Individuals must demonstrate they can:
- follow workplace procedures and work health and safety (WHS) requirements when modifying and repairing chassis and frames
- maintain a working knowledge of vehicle chassis and components
- identify faults and non-conformance of vehicle components and systems against original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications
- modify and repair chassis and frame components, which must include cutting and joining as well as straightening the chassis
- identify workplace quality standards relating to modifying and repairing chassis and frames
- use workplace equipment when modifying and repairing chassis and frames
- follow safe work practices when modifying and repairing chassis and frames
- complete repair and inspection reports relating to modified and repaired chassis and frames.
Knowledge Evidence
Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
- WHS requirements and workplace procedures relating to modifying and repairing chassis and frames
- workplace documentation relating to modified and repaired chassis and frames:
- OEM specifications
- Vehicle Standards Bulletin 6 (VSB6) National Code of Practice - Heavy Vehicle Modifications
- inspection and testing procedures
- work instructions
- fault indicators
- retesting and release processes
- work plans
- types of vehicle chassis and frames
- inspection and measuring techniques of chassis and frames
- chassis and frame alignment techniques
- modification and repair requirements of chassis and frames
- cutting and welding procedures of chassis and frames.
Assessment Conditions
Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.
Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.
Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to the vehicles on which they have worked, e.g. repair orders.
Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.
The following resources must be made available:
- automotive manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
- chassis and frames
- OEM specifications to modify and repair chassis and frames
- tools and equipment required to modify and repair chassis and frames
- workplace inspection and testing procedures relating to the modification and repair of chassis and frames
- WHS equipment relating to the modification and repair of chassis and frames
- workplace documentation, including job sheets, relating to the modification and repair of chassis and frames.
