Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Plan for fabrication

1.1 Work order and job specifications are identified and job requirements and plug material  are confirmed

1.2 Equipment  for fabrication of plug is selected and checked for safe operation

1.3 Plug shape is established and plug dimensions are determined from job specifications

2. Shape material for plug

2.1 Workplace procedures  are identified and followed during the shaping activities

2.2 Plug templates and patterns are identified and produced from selected materials

2.3 Plug material is cut and prepared according to job specifications

2.4 Material surface is shaped using fabrication equipment

2.5 Plug dimensions are checked against template and job specifications

3. Complete work processes

3.1 Plug is finished according to workplace procedures and job requirements

3.2 Work area and equipment are cleaned, inspected and maintained according to workplace procedures

3.3 Waste material is collected and recycled or disposed of according to workplace procedures

3.4 Faulty equipment is identified, tagged and reported

3.5 Job sheets are completed and reported to appropriate personnel

Foundation Skills

This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to performance.

Unit updated to reflect the new standards for Training Packages

Replaces AUMGTS3003 Fabricate plugs

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently fabricated plugs on a minimum of two occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • identify and apply work instructions and specifications
  • identify plug defects and repair them to specifications
  • produce formed plug to meet the job specification and production requirements according to workplace procedures and work health and safety (WHS) requirements
  • select and use materials, tools and equipment when fabricating plugs
  • complete fabrication work sheets and faulty equipment tags.

Knowledge Evidence

Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • workplace procedures to fabricate plugs for fibreglass components
  • equipment safety requirements relevant to fabricating plugs
  • workplace quality standards relevant to fabricating plugs
  • plug fabrication techniques, including materials to use in the fabrication of plugs and their handling techniques
  • plug shaping techniques
  • use of tools and equipment relating to fabricating plugs
  • environmental requirements relating to the disposal of waste materials.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to the plugs that they have fabricated, e.g. fabrication work sheets.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • automotive manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • work instructions, working drawings and plug specifications
  • materials for plug fabrication
  • tools, equipment, patterns and templates for fabricating plugs
  • workplace procedures relating to fabricating plugs.
