Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Review work processes

1.1 Inefficient production processes  and opportunities for reducing cycle time  are identified

1.2 Total cycle time for identified processes is calculated and production time recorded

1.3 High cycle time and processes that do not value add are identified

2. Plan and implement cycle time reduction

2.1 Proposed changes are planned and documented

2.2 Cycle time reduction plans are approved by appropriate personnel

2.3 Implementation of new processes is supported in line with workplace procedures

2.4 Cycle times following the implementation of plans are documented

3. Record changes in cycle times

3.1 Cycle time changes are confirmed and recorded

3.2 Information concerning endorsed changes is communicated to team members

3.3 Validation of the new processes is supported according to workplace procedures

Foundation Skills

This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to performance.

Skills

Description

Reading skills to:

  • interpret cycle time processes and production documents.

Writing skills to:

  • legibly enter information into cycle time documents
  • complete production sheets
  • complete cycle time plan.

Oral communication skills to:

  • refer workplace cycle time issues to team leader and supervisor
  • speak clearly and directly when presenting continual improvement ideas and solutions to problems.

Problem-solving skills to:

  • determine required workplace quality standards and continual improvement opportunities.

Range of Conditions

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Production processes  must include:

  • documentation and record-keeping activities
  • supply processes
  • work area set-up time.

Reducing cycle time must include:

  • inspection time
  • process time
  • queue time
  • storage time.

Unit Mapping Information

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently contributed to reducing cycle time that does not value add to work processes on a minimum of three occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • understand cycle time instructions
  • comply with cycle time procedures
  • comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements during work processes
  • identify cycle time problems and recommend corrective action
  • work and communicate effectively with others to reduce cycle time
  • achieve production and work quality goals
  • respond constructively to changing work requirements
  • manage time when planning and preparing work priorities
  • complete work sheets and cycle time quality control documents.

Knowledge Evidence

Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • production cycle time
  • cycle time work plan
  • workplace communication protocols relating to work cycle time
  • type of cycle time problems and resolution techniques
  • quality control systems and performance indicators and measures
  • recording and reporting procedures relating to work cycle time.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to reducing cycle time in automotive manufacturing, e.g. production output graphs.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • automotive manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • production cycle times and performance indicators
  • vehicle or component production line or simulated production line
  • work instructions relating to reducing cycle time
  • tools, equipment and machinery that assist in reducing cycle time.
