Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Plan for work

1.1 Work instructions  and job requirements are identified and confirmed

1.2 Materials and components are identified and selected

2. Prepare and inspect materials and components

2.1 Materials and components are visually inspected  to ensure specifications and quality standards are met

2.2 Defective materials and components are identified, tagged and isolated according to workplace procedures

2.3 Materials are prepared, loaded, lined up and secured according to work instructions and workplace procedures

3. Process materials and components

3.1 Materials and components are processed according to workplace instructions, procedures and work health and safety (WHS) requirements using recommended production sequences and tools and equipment

3.2 Quality control methods and measures are identified and applied

3.3 Materials and components are finished to workplace quality standards and specifications

3.4 Work sheets and production documents are completed according to workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

Before competency can be determined, individuals must have competently prepared and processed automotive materials and components on a minimum of two occasions.

Individuals must demonstrate they can:

  • identify workplace procedures and instructions relating to preparing and processing vehicle materials and components
  • comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements relating to the materials and components being processed
  • identify faults in materials and components before processing
  • prepare materials and components for further processing according to workplace quality standards and specifications
  • process materials and components according to workplace quality standards and specifications
  • complete workplace documentation relating to the preparation and processing of automotive materials and components.

Knowledge Evidence

Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • relevant WHS procedures relating to preparing and processing automotive materials and components
  • procedures for handling and storing materials and components
  • fault identification and resolution techniques
  • workplace recording, reporting and equipment maintenance requirements.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must satisfy SNR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals must provide evidence that links them to preparing and processing automotive materials and components, e.g. work orders.

Assessors must verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application.

The following resources must be made available:

  • manufacturing workplace or simulated workplace
  • workplace instructions relating to preparing and processing automotive materials and components
  • operator instruction sheets (OISs) or workplace equivalent
  • standard operating procedures (SOPs) or workplace equivalent
  • process control plans (PCPs) or workplace equivalent
  • a range of materials and components required for the manufacturing process
  • production tools and equipment relating to preparing and processing automotive materials and components
  • work sheets and workplace documentation relating to
